Walking through Sri Harsha road, one can find a number of restaurants – the Andhra style to the multi cuisine. One of these myriad restaurants is ‘Jewel Rock’. With the symbol ‘JR’ outside, it ensures people don’t miss it.

Jewel Rock is a multi cuisine restaurant with Chinese, North Indian, South Indian cuisines. Vegetarian as well as non – vegetarian options are available here.

 If you get to the restaurant around 8 in the evening, it might be a little difficult to find a table. After a little bit of waiting, you will be helped by the waiters for finding a good table in the softly lit setting of the restaurant.

Jewel Rock is best for a relatively quite dinner with family (A roof top option which serves alcohol is also available) The place is medium sized with tables in close proximity of each other. The space utilization is quite commendable but if you are the kind of person who needs to exercise your kinesthetic freedom, Jewel Rock may not be the best place for you.

For starters, the spring rolls, Manchurians, masala papad are the best options if you are a vegetarian. For non vegetarians, the tandoori platter, kalmi kabab, haryali kabab and chicken soup are the best bet.

The vegetarian North Indian options include rotis, subzis and the different rice dishes like biryani and pulao. The veg. hyderabadi, veg kolhapuri,veg dopyaza, malai kofta etc are tasty and well prepared. For the non vegetarians, the chicken hyderabadi, chicken chettinad etc are excellent. The chicken here is generally well cooked and has a fine taste. There are juices and ice creams for dessert.

The service is quick however, the waiters are not always courteous.The prices are justified for middle class pockets. A meal for two would cost Rs.250

Jewel Rock is one of those places which can be frequented with family and friends. It is simple and serves good food.  There are concerns that the place is losing its earlier charm and the quality of food is deteriorating. Hope they keep up the name they have earned.

Cafe Aramane

Location- Sayaji Rao Road, next to SBI

Café Aramane is a hot destination located amidst the hustle bustle of the famous shopping spot Devraj Urs Road and the connecting link to the city- the city bus stand. “Aramane” in Kannada translates to Palace in English, as the name suggests this restaurant has ancient royal interiors played down with simple and modest seating arrangements which make it a homely destination for many tourists and localities.  Its walls are adorned by paintings of the famous Mysore Dusshera procession. Its windows are artistically decorated.

From my innumerable visits to this place – all I have to say is, this place has never disappointed me, be it Chinese, North Indian or crispy yuuummm dosas with mouth watering chutneys. They also have a special dosa for every day of the week!!  The crispy vegetable noodles are also a very good option to look out for in their menu.

While you can be rest assured the main course is always going to taste good, the desserts though not a wide variety are enjoyable too. One thing you dare not give a miss here is the fruit salad with or without ice-cream. Luscious cuts fruits layered with sweet honey give it a very typical taste which makes it one of the must popular items on the menu.

The best part of the whole Café Aramane experience apart from the warm service is the modest rates. A meal for two inclusive of the desserts would cost about Rs.200. That’s it!
